Allergy Friendly, Gluten Free – Allergen Labelling
At GF Pantry, we love to speak to our customers about all things gluten free and allergy friendly and we know that understanding what to look for when you are newly diagnosed can be really tough!
Did you know that there are now 10 allergens that have to be placed on food labels? These are:
- Wheat
- Milk
- Fish
- Tree Nuts
- Peanuts
- Shellfish
- Lupins
- Soy
- Eggs
- Sesame Seeds
You may be surprised to learn that gluten is NOT one of the 10 food allergens but it must still be declared on labelling.
Gluten can be found in:
- Wheat (One of the 10 allergens)
- Barley
- Rye
- Oats
With wheat varieties going by other names such as spelt, triticale or kamut, it can be really difficult to work out what is safe to eat for those with coealic disease or gluten intolerance. However, at GF Pantry, everything is gluten free, so you can feel safe shopping with us!
To ensure products are gluten free, we are constantly on the phone to manufacturers asking the important questions: Is it made in a gluten free facility? Are the ingredients sourced through a gluten free supplier? Is gluten free testing conducted? Are there any chances of cross-contamination?
Although our defining goal it to ensure everything is gluten free, we know that there are other food allergies out there too, and often people will have multiple dietary restrictions. So, we also look for products that can cover other allergies too.
Helping people with food intolerances and allergies is an important role that we take very seriously because we know what it’s like to miss out and we don’t want you to! That’s why we added the amazing filter tool to our website that allows our customers to easily search based on their individual needs. The filter tool has almost 20 options that allows you to filter GF Pantry’s entire product catalogue by both food allergy as well as diet such as vegan or Kosher.
